Welcome aboard AUTOMATIK VFX, a London & Berlin based boutique VFX studio providing a full spectrum of digital image creation; from fantasy creature animation and sci-fi robots to historical world building and interplanetary environments. Operating mostly as the sole vendor we cover everything from conceptual design pre-shoot, through post-vis to the final delivered VFX - working closely with the show running VFX supervisor our department supervisors have a huge creative say in the films and TV shows we create.

You will be incorporating your innovation-driven support on our team working with the latest in VFX software (e.g. Nuke, Maya, etc.), facilitating data management, OS configuration, render farm maintenance, and workstation support, and much more, for a large number of Linux and Windows systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • to liaise directly with the IT department in Germany regarding infrastructure maintenance and development
  • to support the Pipeline TD achieving the pipeline goals
  • to identify problems, develop and implement efficient solutions
  • C++ development, Python scripting
  • Linux server administration
  • Workstation built/upgrade/diagnostics/repair/config/support (hardware and software), relocation/provisioning on a large scale and preparing for new starters according to their profiles, management of artists’ licences
  • Interacting with artists on a daily basis, on the phone and in person.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
  • Experience with Linux/Unix, Windows, Mac OS
  • Hands-on hardware experience; builds, upgrades, repair.
  • Solid experience of system development in a Linux or other Unix-like environment in either C, C++ or Python
  • Advanced scripting knowledge (Powershell, Bash, or Python)
  • Understanding of fundamental data structures and their performance characteristics
  • Understanding of colour spaces and colour pipelines
  • Experience in TCP/IP networking, Firewalls, VPN Tunnels and Secure Authentication

The VFX Editorial assistant incorporates and updates all required versions of visual effects shots into the current cuts of the VFX / live action sequences. He/she will have the ability to create a functioning environment where the Visual Effects Supervisor can evaluate any version of any shot in the current sequences for aesthetic and technical direction. This position works closely with producers to manage all incoming media and outgoing deliverables.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain sequence edits and inserting visual effects shots into the timeline
Manage and document the turnover of shots from editorial through to delivery including ingesting new media into pipeline 
Conforming from EDLs and meticulously checking against offlines for accuracy
Ensure Shotgun is maintained with current shot counts slate/lens information line-up and any retime instructions.
Create daily playlists and operate the screening room system for dailies
Perform shot specific colour corrections to match editorial reference when required
Prepare sequence edits for internal and client approvals when required

At least 1 years minimum experience in post-production/editing environment

You will be incorporating your art-driven unique perspective on the project brief for the best aesthetic and technical approach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • to create particle, rigid-body, fluid and cloth simulations or animations
  • to apply lighting and shaders and/or supporting the Lighting TD
  • to liaise directly with the VFX, 3D, Comp Supervisors and Producer regarding scheduling, look-dev & pipeline development.
  • to identify problems, develop and implement efficient solutions
  • to mentor junior artists when necessary

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent project management, communication and organisational skills
  • Adaptable and a lateral thinker with a passion for effective problem solving
  • Ability to work with the VFX Supervisor, 3D Supervisor, Comp Supervisor to plan the creative and technical approach to each show
  • Excellent knowledge ofHoudini and Maya essential
  • Previous experience producing effects such as smoke, fire, destruction and explosions
  • Motivated team player who can take directions well
  • Good English language skills

Compositing Artists (Mid/Sen) - London Posted 9/10/2018

We currently have several openings in our London studio for experienced compositors to work on two feature film projects. Immediate start available.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Compositing of live-action shots with CG Elements, including 2D tracking, layering of elements, colour grading and extracting mattes
  • In conjunction with the VFX supervisor and team leads, developing visual solutions for specific effects
  • Consistently delivering shots that are creatively and technically excellent

 

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years experience working with Nuke at professional level on feature film projects
  • Strong artisitc background
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in the English language 
  • Ability to structure Nuke scripts and creative workflow so that conceptual changes can be made efficiently 
  • Ability to follow creative briefs and implement feedback from team leads and the VFX Supervisor 
  • A positive attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure to meet deadlines
  • EU citizenship or an existing UK work permit

 

Good to Have:

  • Experience using F-Track and/or Shotgun software
  • BA in computer graphics
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Python experience
