VFX Coordinator - Berlin Posted 23/6/2021

We are currently looking for a VFX Coordinator to join our Berlin Office.

Primary responsibilities:
• Responsible for setting up, maintaining and delivering a project in close collaboration with the VFX Producer and VFX Supervisor
• Organising and attending daily reviews
• Assessing the progression of established project plans
• Keeping the production database up to date
• Serving as organisational contact for clients and preparing client approval sessions
• Running submissions and deliveries

Requirements:
• Experience of coordinating CG feature film projects in an established VFX facility
• Knowledge of CG production pipelines and post production in general is crucial
• Outstanding organizational skills
• Knowledge of Shotgun a plus
• Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high-pressure environment
• Able to communicate effectively across multiple teams
• Fluent English language skills, spoken and in writing, German a plus.
• Proficient in MS Office
• Experience with current image and video formats
• Apt to handle sensitive data with diligence
• Ability and motivation to quickly learn new software
• Ability to work well within a team
• EU citizenship or an existing EU work permit

Welcome aboard AUTOMATIK VFX, a London & Berlin based boutique VFX studio providing the full spectrum of digital image creation; from fantasy creature animation and sci-fi robots to historical world building and interplanetary environments. Operating mostly as the sole vendor we cover everything from conceptual design pre-shoot, through post-vis to the final delivered VFX - working closely with the show running VFX supervisor our department supervisors have a huge creative say in the films and TV shows we create.

You will be incorporating your art-driven unique perspective on the project brief for the best aesthetic and technical approach.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • to composite live-action shots with CG Elements, including 2D tracking, layering of elements, colour grading and extracting mattes
  • to develop visual solutions for specific effects in conjunction with the VFX supervisor and team leads to keep up with Automatik’s high-end visual effects standards
  • execute assigned shots that are creatively and technically excellent in the fastest way possible
  • to proactively collaborate and communicate with other departments, with Production and with Leads to ensure seamless integration of all elements, meeting schedules and deadlines
  • to follow creative briefs and implement feedback from team leads and the VFX Supervisor
  • to work well in a team environment, to show enthusiasm to learn and develop professionally
     

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency and experience with Nuke on feature film projects
  • Strong artistic background, with an eye for detail, composition, colour and lighting
  • Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in the English language, ability to understand and apply shot notes
  • Ability to structure Nuke scripts and creative workflow to facilitate efficiently conceptual changes
  • A positive attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure to meet deadlines
  • EU citizenship or an existing UK work permit
     

DESIRABLE SKILLS:

  • Experience using Shotgun
  • Experience working in a Linux environment

You will be incorporating your art-driven unique perspective on the project brief and navigate your team for the best aesthetic and technical approach.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • to produce high-end photoreal 3D imagery
  • to maintain quality control for all 3D outputs
  • to identify problems, develop and implement efficient solutions
  • to liaise directly with the VFX & Comp Supervisor / Producer regarding bidding, scheduling, pipeline development
  • to manage and oversee the 3D team in all aspects for the assigned sequence
  • to attend dailies/rounds and provide constructive feedback for compositors to finalise shots
  • to mentor junior CG Artists when necessary

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent project management, communication and organisational skills
  • Adaptable and a lateral thinker with a passion for effective problem solving
  • Ability to work with the VFX Supervisor and Comp Supervisor to plan the creative and technical approach to each show
  • Experience in leading a 3D team throughout the creative and technical process to deliver a high standard of work on time and within budget
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience using Maya and Arnold essential, some Houdini knowledge a plus
  • Motivated team player who can take directions well
  • Good English language skills

Senior Matchmove Artist -- London Posted 16/2/2021

Matchmovers are responsible for creating CG cameras, object tracks and body tracks that adopt the same movements as the BG plate. They may also model geometry to enable the live action to integrate seamlessly with CG elements. 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Creating CG cameras, object tracks and body tracks to match the BG plate
  • Geometric reconstruction of key objects in a scene
  • Conducting quality control checks to ensure the accuracy of each track
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure CG elements are seamlessly integrated into a shot
  • Work well in a team environment and take direction from team leads and the production team

 

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ matchmove experience in a VFX facility working on feature film projects
  • Good understanding of the 3D VFX pipeline 
  • Professional user of PFTrack or 3DEqualizer 
  • An educational background in Computer Graphics, Animation or another related course
  • A strong understanding of the basic principles of computer graphics
  • Basic knowledge in Maya, Linux and a compositing package
  • The ability to efficiently meet deadlines
  • A good understanding of photography and the relationship between the lens focal length and the camera’s sensor and image aspect ratio as well as how nodal, non-nodal, mixed camera movement and parallax works
  • Strong attention to details to achieve pixel perfection
  • Excellent communication and team-working skills, including fluency in the English language
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop professionally

 

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Mel and/or Python scripting skills
  • Native stereo experience
